“Historic neighborhoods have always held a special place in my heart.  When I visit a new city I always find myself searching for the neighborhood with the great parks, the tree-lined boulevards and the classic homes.

I’m thrilled when I see a wonderfully restored older home in any style.   The historic Ravenna neighborhood in our little city of Seattle is filled with many lovely homes from the arts and crafts period- bungalow and craftsmen in design, many with great front porches and cobbled stone chimneys.  A walk through the neighborhood got me dreaming about what beautiful tile these homes must have on the inside.

With these historic homes in mind, I pulled in some hand carved decorative pieces and molding shapes that have strong, classic lines.  The hand glazed field shapes in the collection feel authentically historic, but will fit right into a contemporary home as well.  The subtle richness of our original fire glazes fit this collection perfectly, but we seemed to be missing some neutrals.  So Zsuza, our glaze expert, created some sophisticated new colors in the brown and gray hues to complete the line.  The elements of this handmade collection are simply classic and will fit in to multiple design styles–from contemporary to old world to transitional.”  — Susan Boyd, designer of the Ravenna Collection
